Hidden in the Rain

Every time I think a Hidden Cave trip could not possibly provide anything new to write about, I am proven wrong. I've been there in the snow, with a blind caver, and even gotten caught at the bottom of a little innocent pit and had to struggle to get up a slimy slope. It never fails to be fun.

Last Sunday I took my girlfriend, Donna, on her second cave trip and, being it was just the two of us, I decided any complex or really challenging cave would not be wise, so we hiked to Hidden. (Yeah, I'm getting sensible in my old age).

It was a beautiful, overcast afternoon and Cave Creek was a trickle (for a change) as we hiked above it. Hidden was fun as usual, especially the great Reverb Room at the top of one side. Preparing for the last hands-and-knees crawl out I saw a rare sight in Hidden Cave- a stream! Yes, water was running through the tunnel and a little waterful cascaded down the side of the entrance. Beautiful! But even more beautiful was the downpour in the Canyon as we hiked back. We were soaked to the bone when we got to my truck- loads of fun!! You can never write off any cave trip as being just "another trip to...."
